David is always telling me how funny he is. I'm always telling him otherwise.
He continually cites "The Janitor Story" as proof. It really is a pretty funny story, but I say that it was a one time occurrence. I'm sure most of you know the story... he really likes to tell it. (For those of you who don't, scroll to the bottom of this post.) The conversation often starts with him telling a horrible joke.
Me: "Oh brother."
Him: "What? You know I'm funny."
Me: "No. You WISH you were funny."
Him: "Whatever. I'm hilarious. You always laugh at me."
Me: "Yes. AT you."
Him: "You're the one who isn't funny. You just laugh really hard at your own jokes so you think you're funny, but no one else is laughing. Just like your mom."
Me: "It is NOT* the same as my mom and you laugh too."
Him: "No. I'm laughing at you, laughing at your own joke because you're so ridiculous."
Me: "Well, you're wrong*, I AM funny and this isn't about me...it's about you. And you're not funny."
Him: "Whatever. I'm hilarious."
This is about the time he will bring up "The Janitor Story" if he's going to cite it.
Well, I guess he is out to prove that he really is funny and it looks like he has somehow convinced our daughter to take his side. Her laugh is so dang cute that I'm almost swayed... ALMOST.
*It probably is the same as my mom, and he is probably right. What can I say? I like my own jokes!
Side Note: I love my husband and he does make me laugh. But he also falls flat sometimes so this is a continual joke around here. Apparently he gets it from his dad. :)
The Janitor Story
David tutors biochemistry at the college. One evening he was in a classroom tutoring a few kids when a young, black custodian comes in and starts wiping down the boards. He notices D and the other students and, being a friendly fella, strikes up a conversation.
"Where are you from?" he asks them.
"Idaho," D replies when they get around to him.
"Idaho?! That's really far away. There aren't too many of us out there," he responds, obviously referring to black people.
"What? Janitors?" David deadpans.
"No! Brotha's!"

This made my heart melt. Her laugh is adorable. And I must submit, that Val is the funniest person I know. Hence our friendship, love, and appreciation for one another. Amen.
